Set up a Referral program
Overview
In this guide, we’ll show you how to set up a referral program that helps you acquire new customers through trusted recommendations and word-of-mouth marketing.
With a referral program, existing customers earn a reward (eg.: amount off discount, % off discounts, store credit etc.) configured by your. when their referred customer completes a purchase. Similarly you can also configure a reward for the referred friend.
These rewards can be customised with conditions such as minimum order value, expiry, and discount combinations—helping you drive higher conversion rates, build trust, and encourage repeat purchases.
How referrals work?
Each customer receives a unique referral link they can share with friends. The referred friend can claim their reward via the referral link, while the referrer earns their reward once the referred friend completes and pays for a purchase. This setup encourages both new customer acquisition and repeat engagement.
Setting up referrals in the admin
- Referral & referrer rewards: Offer rewards to both the Referrer and the Referred friend. The referred friend can claim the reward when they open the referral link, the referrer earns a reward once the referred friend makes and pays for the purchase - encouraging sharing and repeat engagement.

- Reward types
You can offer the below rewards to both Referrer and Referred friend.
Amount discount - Provides a fixed amount discount as the reward (eg.: $10 off)
- Referred friend Rewards:
You can control how referred friends unlock their reward—by allowing instant redemption without an account or requiring account creation. You can also define the discount value, set minimum order value conditions, configure expiry rules, and choose how the reward applies across products or collections.

- Referrer Rewards:
Referrers unlock their reward once the referred customer completes a purchase. You can customize the reward by defining the discount value, setting minimum order conditions, configuring expiry rules, and choosing whether it applies to all products or specific collections.

- Require Account or not account
You can control if the referred friend can claim reward with/without creating an account.

- Fraud prevention steps
Each customer is assigned a unique referral link, and multiple validation checks are applied to ensure that referee rewards are claimed only by genuine new customers, helping prevent misuse and self-referrals.
Setting it up on the Storefront
After the your Referral program is set up in the admin the last step is to show it on the storefront.
Make sure the "Love Loyalty" app embed is turned on in the theme editor. This is required for the Referral program to display and function on store front.

- Loyalty Page
The Referral section can also be displayed to the Loyalty Page by adding "Refer a Friend" block.

- Thank you page
The Referral section can also be displayed to the Thank you Page by adding "Refer Friends" block.

- Order status page
The Referral section can also be displayed to the Order Status Page by adding "Refer Friends" block.

Frequently Asked Questions
- When does the referrer gets the reward?
The referrer earns their reward once the referred friend completes and pays for their first purchase. The reward is unlocked only after the order is successfully paid, ensuring referrals are valid and genuine.
- Referral link is not visible on the loyalty page
Make sure the Love Loyalty app embed is enabled in the theme editor. The referral program requires the app embed to be turned on for the referral link to display correctly.
- Referral link is not visible on the Thank You page
Ensure the customer is logged in. Referral links are shown only to logged-in customers on the Thank You page.
