How to set up VIP tier expiry?
Overview:
VIP tier expiry helps keep your loyalty program active and engaging by resetting tier progress after a set period. It encourages customers to continue earning points or spending to maintain their tier, ensuring VIP rewards stay meaningful and are reserved for your most loyal customers.
How to setup VIP Tiers Expiry:
- Go to Love Loyalty App and navigate to VIP Tiers.
- You can set when tier progress should reset under the "Tier Progress Expiry" by choosing any of the below 3 options:

- Never Reset (default) - Tier progress never expires and is selected by default, ideal for lifetime VIP programs where customers can qualify at their own pace.
- End of the Calendar Year - Tier progress resets at the end of each year, but customers keep the tier they achieved for the coming year, making it ideal for annual or seasonal loyalty programs.
- After X months - Tier progress resets after a fixed number of months, while customers retain their earned tier for the next period, encouraging ongoing and consistent engagement.

How VIP Tier Expiry Works
When a tier expires, only the customer’s tier progress is reset — not the tier itself. Customers keep the tier they have already achieved for the next period, and can start earning again toward maintaining or upgrading their tier.
Example:
If tier expiry is set to 12 months and a customer earns 5,000 points to reach the Gold tier in 11 months, their progress will reset to 0 in the 12th month, but they will remain on the Gold tier for the next 12 months.
If during that new period they earn only 3,000 points, they will be placed in the Silver tier for the following 12 months.
Frequently Asked Questions
- Can customers move up or down tiers after an expiry reset?
Yes. After progress resets, customers can earn points again and may move up, maintain, or move down tiers based on their activity in the new period.
- Does tier expiry impact customer points balance?
No. Tier expiry only resets tier qualification progress. Customers keep their loyalty points unless they are redeemed or expire separately.
- Can I change the tier expiry setting later?
Yes. You can update the tier expiry settings at any time, but changes will apply moving forward and won’t retroactively recalculate past tier progress.
